How Quartz Countertops Are Made
Quartz countertops are engineered using a mix of natural quartz crystals (one of the hardest minerals on Earth) and high-quality resins. The process begins by combining roughly 90–95% ground quartz with 5–10% polymer resins and pigments. This blend is then compressed under intense pressure and heat to form solid, non-porous slabs.
Quartz Durability
- Scratch-resistant – Resists cuts, scuffs, and daily wear.
- Stain-resistant – Non-porous and easy to clean—no sealing needed.
- Heat-resistant – Withstands everyday heat, but always use a trivet for hot cookware.
- Crack-resistant – While quartz is highly durable, standing or sitting on countertops is never recommended, as it can lead to cracking or structural damage.
- Low-maintenance – Just wipe clean with soap and water—no special cleaners required.
